Parent Engagement Session: Youth and Substance Use

Presented by Art Steinmann, Senior Associate in Youth Substance Use Health Promotion at Bunyaad Public Affairs Inc.

Art Steinmann has over 40 years of experience in substance use policy, education, program development, advocacy, and health promotion work. Art was a co-developer of SACY (Supporting and Connecting Youth Program), a successful and celebrated substance use education program through the Vancouver School District. Art also lends his experience to the ABC’s of Youth Substance Use Project funded by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions. 

Discussion topics for this parent engagement session will include:

• Confidence and the language needed to support youth in navigating the often tricky subject of substance use and misuse
• Educating youth about substances isn’t just about drug facts
• The link between substance use and mental health
• Adolescent decision making
• The value of being an adult ally
